Carranca Cachaca
Ink and marker on paper. Carranca Cachaca copyright 2009. In the early days of exploration into Brasil’s interior carved wooden carrancas were often attached to the prows of river-boats. While some attribute supernatural powers of protection to the carranca others say that it was simply intended to frighten and intimidate the natives. Today the carranca is a symbol of Brasilian history and heritage.
